Community Transportation Canvasser, Part Time
GO Buffalo Community Transportation Program
Green Options (GO) Buffalo, in partnership with the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus and Buffalo CarShare, is hiring a canvasser to support our GO Buffalo Community Transportation Program. For more information about GO Buffalo, visit http://greenoptionsbuffalo.org/.
Responsibilities:
- Door to door cold-calling and follow-up house visits in the Fruit Belt and Allentown neighborhoods
- Gather information re: residents’ current transportation habits and routines
- Share information with residents about available sustainable transportation options
- Encourage residents to utilize the sustainable transportation options
- Identify potential “champions” who can spread the word about the GO Buffalo program
- Identify community groups /events where the program message can be shared with residents
- Speak or table at events. Disseminate literature about the program.
- Accurately record data collected from conversations
- Work collaboratively with a small team of 3 other canvassers and the Street Team Leader to implement project goals
Desired Skills:
- Ability to communicate message in a clear, concise and respectful manner
- Ability to engage residents in the process of choosing new transportation options
- Ability to work with a wide variety of people
- Basic computer skills, including data entry proficiency
- Ability to verbally report daily results in Team meetings
- Ability to be on your feet and walking for up to 4 hours.
- Commitment to observe safe practices as per GO Buffalo guidelines
- Ability to work well independently, with a partner in the field, and as a member of a strong Team
- Flexibility and adaptability for dynamic project
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed
- Active listener
- Detail oriented and accurate

- Passion for sustainable transportation
- Experience canvassing and/or grassroots organizing
Hours: 20 hrs/week for 23 weeks (May 2012 - Oct 2012)
Pay: $13.80/hr
