Cara Matteliano to Receive Sierra Club Award

cara_littleCARA MATTELIANO TO RECEIVE SIERRA CLUB NIAGARA GROUP AWARD FOR HER LEADERSHIP IN THE FORMATION OF WNYEA AND GROWWNY

Cara Matteliano will receive the Blake Reeves Award for Environmental Leadership at the 2012 Annual Dinner of the Sierra Club Niagara Group on May 2 at Milo’s in Williamsville.  We award her specifically, and the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo organizationally, for leadership in the development of the Western New York Environmental Alliance (WNYEA) and the GrowWNY website.  Cara has demonstrated vision and determination in the gathering of the environmental community into an Alliance that gives the natural world a stronger voice in the Niagara Region while supporting individual organizations.

The Bruce Kershner Conservation Award goes to Nan and Walter Simpson for their tireless efforts to educate us about climate change.  In addition, the winners of our Environmental Education competition will be announced.  Awards go to Doug Hollinger of Pavilion Central School in Genesee County, first place;  Dr. Manju Prakash from Archbishop Walsh Academy in Olean NY, second place; and  Mark Ricupito from Sweet Home High School in Amherst NY, third place.
