Throughout Erie and Niagara Counties, organizations and businesses are pledging their support to encourage their employees and/or members to commute to work by carpooling, walking, biking, or taking Metro bus or rail on or around Earth Day (April 22nd). By making this commitment, the organization and its employees are working together to reduce their environmental impact this Earth Day.
Visit BuffaloEarthDay.com to pledge your organization’s support to commute “green” for Earth Day, or make an individual Earth Day pledge. While at the website you will find a link to the GBNRTC’s website GoodGoingWNY.com which is an excellent source for finding ridesharing matches in WNY. By simply entering a starting address and a destination, the program will identify carpool matches, bus options, and bicycling routes that provide alternatives to the single-car work commute, and your personal information will not be shared with other users. In addition, BuffaloEarthDay.com and GrowWNY.org are posting environmentally positive events happening in the area on and around Earth Day.
The alternative transportation campaign will culminate with “the social event of Earth Week,” a Buffalo/Niagara Green Drinks event at D’Arcy McGee’s, April 21 at 6pm. The NFTA will be giving out its annual Good Going Awards and GrowWNY.org will be making an important announcement.
It is becoming increasingly important to change the way we think about how our everyday life impacts our environment. Earth Day provides a great opportunity to make a collective difference in reducing our environmental footprint, and we encourage you to do your part and make the Earth Day Pledge now!! If your organization or business is not currently one of the many participating organizations, encourage them to join the Celebration by going to BuffaloEarthDay.com. Together this Earth Day, WNY can prove that small changes can make a big difference!
