Celebrate America Recycles Day!
BY: GARY CARREL, RECYCLING COORDINATOR
This Saturday, November 15, you can celebrate America Recycles Day by donating to the WNY Coalition of Donated Goods (WNYCDG) in the Elmwood Village or at the Sabres Game.
People are encouraged to clean out their closets and bring their donated clothing and textiles to the Bidwell Farmers Market from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM and the parking lot on Elmwood Ave. near Auburn 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Or, if you are going to the Sabres game that night, there will be volunteers at all entrances to collect textiles from fans from the time the gates open until 7:00 PM.
Please note, even if items are torn… stained… are missing buttons… have broken zippers, etc., they can still be recycled. As long as the items are dry and odor-free (not stained with solvents such as gasoline) they can be recycled.
It is being called “WNY Wear it Forward” and it would not be possible without the support of the Elmwood Village Association and the Buffalo Sabres Green Team. All programs of the WNYCDG are put together by collaboration of Erie County, the City of Buffalo, who work with all the members of the Coalition: Goodwill of WNY, The Salvation Army of Buffalo, Buffalo City Mission, AMVETS, and Hearts for the Homeless.
Of course, you don’t have to wait for an event to recycle your clothing and textiles. There are many places where this can be done. For more information and this event and other opportunities: www.city-buffalo.com/reuse or contact Gary Carrel at 858-4805 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
