Shredding in Celebration!
BY GARY CARREL, SOLID WASTE RECYCLING SPECIALIST, ERIE COUNTY DEP
Many of us have those papers lurking, maybe in a file cabinet, or in a box or even just a pile—all that paper that you don’t want to put in the recycling bin because it has your social security number or medical information, or some old bank or tax documents. Thanks to a collaboration between the City of Buffalo and Erie County, you can have all that paper shredded on Saturday, November 9, 2013 from 9:00 AM – noon with a Community Shredding Event designed for residents to safely and securely shred and recycle their household, confidential personal papers at any of the three Erie Community College locations (Please no businesses, this is only for residents). There is a five (5) box limit per vehicle.
Document shredding services are being provided at no charge by Cintas Document Management, who will be shredding the paper on site. The shredded paper will then be recycled. According to the US Environmental Projection Agency, about 70 million tons of paper and paperboard are used each year in this country. Please do not bring any non-confidential papers, such as newspapers, junk mail, envelopes, magazines, etc. as these will not be accepted. These items can be included with your regular municipal paper recycling.
This event is being held at this time of the year to celebrate “America Recycles Day” which is a national initiative by Keep America Beautiful dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the U.S. Since 1997, communities across the country have participated in America Recycles Day to promote recycling awareness, commitment, and action. On or around November 15 (America Recycles Day) events are organized to educate neighbors, friends and colleagues through thousands of events.
So get those confidential papers together, drop them off at one of three locations for a secure way to do your part and recycle!
Volunteers are needed to assist on-site; please contact Gary Carrel in Erie County Department of Environment and Planning at (716) 858-4805 or email@example.com
