Feature Friday: Cazenovia Park

My ‘Gramma’ is always telling me stories about how she used to take my mother to Caz Park for ice skating in the winter and for walks along the creek in the summer. They lived right around the corner from the park in South Buffalo, so it was a quick and easy walk to get there. For all the stories I’ve heard about this peaceful park, I realized that I had never been there myself! I’ve only ever cut through it to get from Seneca St. to Abbott Rd. So, one day, I decided to finally stop and take a stroll along the creek.

After a hectic day in the office, Cazenovia Park was the perfect place to wind down. It was easy to find a parking spot, as there are several small lots scattered throughout the park. There are well maintained trails and sprawling lawns, as well as numerous playing fields for a variety of sports. It looked like a great place to go for a jog, and I noticed quite a few people doing just that. The trails that follow the creek provide the constant rhythm of the water, which is a relaxing sound to pace yourself with. There are also playgrounds and picnic tables that are excellent for family lunches or small park play dates. There is also a Casino at Cazenovia Park that can be rented for larger events, such as reunions or birthday parties.

Even though Caz Park is more developed than some of the other places I have visited, I still felt thrown into the wilderness of WNY. There were more ducks at this park than any other place I’ve been to, save Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge. There was a dirt path through the trees along the creek that we chose over the paved one. This option was a nice reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the busy community that surrounds the park; however, it was a bit narrow and unpredictable, making it hazardous for any activity other than walking.

Caz Park is a great blend of developed recreational areas and a bit more off-the-beaten-path nature trails. Whether you are heading there for a family gathering, a soccer game, or just to unwind after work, I’m sure you will enjoy everything Caz Park has to offer.
