Sierra Club Award Winners 2013: Part 2

The Sierra Club Niagara Group presented the Bruce Kershner Award to Dr. David Kowalski at their Annual Dinner on May 6, 2013.
Bruce Kershner was a renowned authority on old growth forests and raised a tireless voice for their protection. He was credited with the discovery of almost 300 old growth forests in Eastern North America and led numerous ecological studies, which included Zoar Valley and Reinstein Woods. In 2008 Gov. David Patterson signed into law the Bruce S. Kershner Old-growth Forest Preservation and Protection Act.
David Kowalski has also raised a tireless voice on behalf of the environment by bringing clarity and advocacy to the anti-fracking campaign. He travels throughout the Buffalo and Rochester areas presenting a general overview on the topic of High Volume Hydraulic Fracturing and how it will affect our communities, lives, and future. Dr. Kowalski created Re-energize Buffalo a website dedicated to the viability of renewable energy, a clean environment, and preserving public health.
