BY ELISE STEVENS, GROW SOCIAL MEDIA ASSISTANT

Mod_PodgeMod Podge, one of the most sought after necessities when crafting or embarking on any DIY project, can be quite pricey; a 16 oz jar can run you anywhere from $10-$16. Mod podge is essentially watered down glue. Have you ever wondered if you could make it at home with simple ingredients that also save you money? You can with four natural ingredients that reside in your kitchen! We will walk you through making homemade glue that can also be used as mod podge. Recipe yields approximately 2 cups.

You will need:

A few of the supplies you will need!
  • 1 cup of flour
  • 1/3 cup of white sugar
  • ice water
  • ¼ tsp white vinegar (vinegar has anti-fungal properties, allowing your glue to last longer)
  • Whisk
  • Saucepan
  • Airtight container (I used a mason jar)

Instructions:
1. Sift flour and sugar together into the saucepan and then add enough water to form a thin paste, making sure that no lumps remain.

2. Heat gently over medium low heat, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens.

3. Stir in the vinegar and pour into an airtight jar. Allow the glue to cool before using.    (Homemade glue will last for up to 6 months in the refrigerator)

4. If Mod Podge is your desired product, add more water to thin it out to your preferred consistency.

I hope you enjoyed this GIY, I certainly did, the process was quick and easy with exceptional results. If you have any GIY projects of your own please share your trials and errors in the comment section below or on our Facebook page.

This did not work for me. It began to cook instead of thicken and chunked up.
