Climatiness – A Truthiness Variant
BY DAVE BRADLEY, THE WIND ACTION GROUP
From Wikipedia: “Truthiness is a quality characterizing a “truth” that a person making an argument or assertion claims to know intuitively “from the gut” or because it “feels right” without regard to evidence, logic, intellectual examination, or facts.” By extension of the word that Stephen Colbert invented in 2005, Climatiness would be defined as the climate that you believe that we have on earth or the one that you wish we had/thought we had/actually had until recently, not what we actually have and are likely to have. And that if us humans need to change our ways to keep a viable climate, we don’t need much change and certainly any change that will inconvenience the rich and powerful who most of us are not but that we may wish to be or that we think that we might become. Disciples of Climatiness might believe in studying climate but not doing anything about the results of such study, or they may believe that adaptation is possible (it is not possible – see end of article) to overcome/get around the effects of a climate warped out via Global Warming. Needless to say, even though Climatiness has only recently been defined, it has always had a big following, especially among those who advocate extreme moderation with respect to actually doing anything about the actual causes of Global Warming….. and especially the biggest cause, which is CO2 pollution of our atmosphere. By the way, CO2 pollution is easily defined as CO2 formed by burning fossil fuels.”
First of all, here are the unvarnished raw facts – the ones with that horrible liberal bias. But, a well turned infared spectrophotometer does not lie, the CO2 absorbance peaks are so prominent and well defined, and in some ways unique to the spectra for air – see this graph and this one as well. At the NOAA Mona Loa facility where the CO2 content of the world’s atmosphere is officially measured, they helped perfect the science of IR spectroscopy, and they have some of the better instruments in the world, as well as some top quality people to run them. Nope, there is no denying the trend in that graph at the top. They started recording this in 1957. And the worst part about it – the rising trend is ACCELERATING, albeit slightly.
