Organization Name: Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper
Organization Mission: Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper is a community-based organization dedicated to protecting the quality and quantity of water, while connecting people to water. We do this by cleaning up pollution from our waterways, restoring fish and wildlife habitat, and enhancing public access through greenways that expand parks and open space.
Organization Vision: A Legacy of high impact work to restore and revitalize this community’s greatest natural asset
Key Achievements:
- Became the first non-profit to sign a Great Lakes Legacy Act Project Agreement with the USEPA-GLNPO in the upper Buffalo River, currently in final stages of cleaning up the Buffalo River
- Modeling Green Infrastructure plan to implement into Buffalo Niagara Region
- Niagara River Greenway Plan to make parks, trails and conservations areas along waterways
- Citizen Action Programs that seek to promote public awareness, stewardship, education and participation in the restoration and protection of the Buffalo and Niagara River watersheds
