Warm Welcome, Mike and Kristen!

The WNY Environmental Alliance (WNYEA) has appointed Michael Benzin to the position of Visiting Director and Kristen Janson to Communications Coordinator.

Benzin will provide administrative & organizational oversight for the Alliance and work with the Board to ensure financial stability in support the of the Alliance’s programs, strategic direction, and advocacy processes.

An alum of Canisius College, Mike is a seasoned fundraising and non-profit professional.  He has worked with agencies in the cultural, education, entrepreneurial development, healthcare and human services industries.  His firm, Mike Benzin Developments, provides counsel, leadership, services, and staffing for mission-focused organizations.

Janson will manage Alliance communication with and among members as well as with the WNY community through the Alliance’s GrowWNY platform.

An emerging professional in the environmental field, she is building her career as an outdoor educator serving all ages.  Janson is a graduate of the university at Buffalo, State University of New York, with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies.  In the past she spent time as an intern for the Western New York Environmental Alliance and has worked with the Massachusetts Avenue Project, AmeriCorps, and the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Wyoming County.  She currently develops therapeutic recreational activities at her position with New Directions Youth and Family Services in Lockport.

The Western New York Environmental Alliance is a coalition of more than 100 independent organizations that collectively represents the environmental voice for our region and works to position the environment as a key value in decision making  throughout the region.  The WNYEA is also working to increase the capacity of the movement building and advocacy tools of its members.
